It is important for Industries such as Caravan Parks, Launderettes and hotels to have a reliable and constant supply of instant hot water to meet customer demand, so they have always relied on hot water storage to cater for any potential increases in customer demand at peak times. The downside however of hot water storage is that if there is no extra demand, then the system will just keep heating the same hot water in the cylinder (usually 300L or 500L) which is neither cost-effective nor energy-efficient.

Available to cater for various flow rates (i.e 26 or 35 Litres/minute), it is important to size the requirement correctly to ensure the water delivery is sufficient to cater for all the available demands.

35L / minute appliance can supply up to 6 showers 2,100L per hour

Equating showers to launderette machines, a 26L / minute appliance, without storage, could easily meet the demands of a launderette with 4 machines and a combined 100% nominal capacity of 670L per 1-hour cycle.

If the water heating system is undersized, Launderettes will not have sufficient water to meet the demand, resulting in dissatisfied customers. lack of hot water will become apparent to your Laundromat customers.

With no storage tank, Continuous flow water heating systems are more efficient as there is no storage tank which wastes energy keeping the water hot for any potential increase in demand and have a longer lifecycle than storage systems.

External models, fitted with anti-frost protection, are also available and can be fitted on external walls or as part of a pre-assembled modular solution.

Hot water Storage for Launderettes and Caravan Parks

Many Caravan Parks and Launderettes across the UK & Europe have already switched to continuous flow water heaters, reporting significant savings through not wasting energy and money by storing hot water just in case demand increases. Customers no longer complain about not having hot water available for a shower as Continuous flow water heating systems with a never run out of hot water.

With no water storage tank, hot water is only supplied on demand when it is required, and as the water heater is a sealed unit, the flow rate is restricted so the hot water supplied from the appliance is already at the desired temperature.

To meet the demand of the Launderette, Caravan Park or Hotel may require more than one continuous flow water heater, which can be cascaded together as a modular solution. The hot water system can be designed to enable even use across the individual water heaters, ensuring a continuous supply of hot water, whilst offering some redundancy by ensuring some hot water can be supplied supply if there is an issue with one of the appliances.

Some launderettes will try to “make do” and only install 1-2 instantaneous hot water heaters when 3 or 4 should have been installed to cope with the number of machines available and the potential customer demand. This is not a problem most of the time but during peak demand, the machines will fill more slowly and the wash cycle will increase significantly per cycle. So again, a system sizing system is important and that applies whether with or without hot water storage.
